Raised Without Antibiotics Certified by NSF

The NSF Raised Without Antibiotics certification provides consumers with assurance that the animal products they buy have been produced without exposure to antibiotics. This certification brings credibility and consistency to the on-package claim and covers all animal products such as meat, poultry, seafood, fish, dairy and eggs.

Studies suggest over half of the antibiotics in the U.S. are used in animal food production. According to the World Health organization (WHO), the overuse of antibiotics in both human and veterinary medicine has led to the development of superbugs — bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. The rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria has been identified as a high-priority public health concern by the WHO, UN and CDC.

Certification Process

Step 1: Application

NSF’s technical reviewer team reviews the farm, feed mill, abattoir and food processing facility documentation.

Step 2: Audit

All facilities within the application scope undergo an on-site audit. On-site audits confirm practices are consistent with requirements.

Step 3: Post-Audit Review

Applicants have 30 days to respond and correct any audit non-conformances.

Step 4: Certification

An official certificate is granted. Annual renewal is required to maintain certified status.
